I think you learn more when you... - I say when you lose. I think the mistakes you make when you lose help make you better decisions later when you actually do win. I think the same holds true for our class. I think you learn more when you have errors in designing your games then if your game just comes out perfect the first time.
Feeling Behind Right Now? That's OK - I know some of you have expressed to me right now that you are feeling behind with all of your classes. And this makes sense as I'm starting to see lower turn ins for assignments and many assignments coming in late. I can't speak for other teachers but I will say this for my class....that's ok! I get it right now. Classes are still giving you a lot of work. Lack of motivation is sinking in more and more each day. Just do your best to keep up. If you are behind in our lessons, just focus on getting caught up. Just like today: if you aren't ready to start the assignment today because you still need to complete the Pong Tutorials and Customizations, then focus on that. Remember for my class (I can't speak for your other classes), missing assignments are NOT dropping your grade right now.
Today's Tasks/Assignment:
Introduction into Tuesday's Lesson (from the Ready Games website): Today we tackle another arcade classic from back in the day: Asteroids. Ahhh another black and white game that was definitely not known for it's graphics (though back in the day, the asteroids exploding into many pieces was a big deal). In Asteroids, the player controls a spaceship in the center of the screen, avoiding incoming asteroids. The player launches missiles to destroy incoming asteroids, before the asteroids can destroy the ship. When the ship is destroyed, the game ends.
Watch The Video - Click the link on the image to the right to begin working on today's tutorial for the classic Atari game "Asteroids". Be careful when creating your Event as some names in the tutorial don't match what you might have (for example, you are told to name your ship "SpaceShip" but then later it asks you to look for the asset "Player"...which is the spaceship).
This assignment will be due Thursday, 4/24 (which is the same day I'll give you the customization directions for Asteroids).
