Importance of Checking In - To those of you that checked in yesterday with the Google Check In form on the "4/7 Assignment Page", thank you! I had close to 50 of you that did. I appreciate it as (1) it's required by the district but (2) and more importantly, it gives me a chance to see how you are doing (both with my class, mental health wise, etc.). However I also had nearly 40 of you that didn't complete the form. If you had issues with the form not working, then you need to email me and let me know. Otherwise I will be contacting you and your parent regarding the importance of doing this. If it continues, the administration and/or counselors are going to start bugging you with phone calls. Please take a couple of minutes every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from now on and complete these Check In Forms.
Updated Grades - As you saw in your email yesterday, I updated grades to represent the grade I will be using for the remainder of the semester. That being said, I will now begin grading some of your assignments from these past few weeks:
My Maze Game
Game of Codes Tutorial & Customization
Brick Breaker Tutorial
It's Not Too Late To Turn In Work - If you have gotten off to a late start with regards to our work in Ready Games, it's not too late to get your work in. But you will need to go back and look at the following weeks:
Adding Your Own Assets/Audio/Backgrounds - Watch the quick video tutorial (on the right underneath the animated GIF) showing you how to add your own assets today (without using Ready Games' assets).
Customization of "Brick Breaker" - As we have done with the other tutorials, you will now make the Brick Breaker game into your own. Today you are going to replace the current assets (ball, paddle, background, "bricks") using images you find from the web.
Create a copy of your original "Brick Breaker" tutorial (remember you would remix)
Think of a theme you want to make your new game (i.e. Candy Land theme like you see in the GIF above)
Replace your ball, paddle, and background with something from the web. Make sure these new items match your new theme.
For your bricks, you will come up with 3 rows of bricks (each row will have a different brick; you choose). To make sure you give yourself plenty of space for the ball to bounce from the paddle to the bricks, you may need to make the bricks smaller than you had them before in the tutorial.
Find a new sound from the web (either the sound when the ball hits the brick OR maybe a background song to play).
Add (1) other item of your choice that makes your game stand out from the rest (again don't be afraid to try something new).
Add (1) other item that makes your game more challenging than the tutorial (i.e. add another ball where now two are running in the scene; one fast and one slow). Be creative!
Give your newly customized game a new name, new description, and new cover picture.
I'll put up the Google Form for turning in this assignment beginning tomorrow (please do not turn it in on the Google Form to the right as this is just for the tutorial you completed).
Items Due:Nothing Due Today (If you haven't turned in the shared link for the "Brick Breaker" Tutorial, please do so with the Google Form on the right...don't forget you have to be logged into your district email address)
