Rewind, Pause, or Fast Forward? - My answer has a special meaning for me because today is my kids' (Byron and Juliana's) 12th Birthday. So for me, I would choose the Pause button. They are growing up so fast and sometimes, I just want to hit that Pause button a little bit more to enjoy this time. Before I know it, they'll be students at Los Osos just like you!
Reminder: Last Day for Missing Work- Even though we are a few weeks away, it's important to start talking about when late work is due. All missing work needs to be turned in as soon as you can get it into me. However the last day I will accept ANY missing work is Friday, May 15th. It's important to understand I will NOT accept ANY missing work after this date. The following week is finals week and I want you to be able to know what your updated grade is going into turning in the final project (which we'll be talking about soon). Seniors: I definitely have to have your work by this date as this is your last day of instruction
Today's Tasks/Assignment:
Have You Checked Out All The Effects ReadyMaker Has? - Did you know you could add rocket fire to your spaceship? Some fireworks? Need rain or snow in your scene? These and many other Effects are available in ReadyMaker and can be added real easily to assets in your game. As you can see on my updated Asteroid game, I added rocket fire to my Millennium Falcon, steam particle effects to the Tie Fighters, and a snow effect to look like I was flying through "stars" in space (I know looks a little fake and cheesy; but hey why not?). Just click on an object > Choose the "Effects" button on the left side (with the lightning bolt) > Add Effect. You'll see the same choices you see on the right image (and a few more that couldn't fit here). Check them out when you do your customization (as you will add a couple of these).
Customization of "Space War" - I'm hoping as you were creating "Space War" you saw LOTS of ways to customize this game (I know I did). Let's see what you come up with here.
Create a copy of your original "Space War" tutorial (remember you would remix)
Think of a theme you want to make your new game
Replace your two spaceships, missiles, black hole center image, and background with something from the web to match your theme
Similar to before, feel free to use the Ready Games assets if your web images keeps freezing when you try to download. But do your best to add web images so you add your own style to it.
Add (1) sound or background music
Add a score to your game (you decide on the event or events to use in creating this)
Create an event when the game will end (spaceships can't shoot anymore, screen turns, etc.)
Add (1) more challenging aspect to your game that isn't already here (I'm curious what you'll come up with).
Add (2) Effects to any two of your current assets (don't just add random Effects just to get the points here; there should be a purpose of why you are adding your two particular Effects).
Turn in both your Space War Tutorial and Space War Customization to the forms you see below
